Hey,
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Having proven itself as a favorite film of children around the world, Willy
Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is every bit as entertaining now as it was when
originally released in 1971. There's a timeless appeal to Roald Dahl's classic children's
novel, which was playfully preserved in this charming musical, from the colorful
carnival-like splendor of its production design to the infectious melody of the
"Oompah-Loompah" songs that punctuate the story.
Hello! Did you miss me? ;) 8 comments |post a comment
Finally busted out my old 486 that I've had in my closet for a few months. Turns out it's just a 386. Even better!
I've been neglecting my LJ because, mainly, of school. I'm either busy to death, or dead tired. Those aren't the best combinations. ;) Hopefully it'll settle into a nice lull of boredom, and then I can focus my mental energy on more fun things, but until then, it seems my favorite word is "blah." :)
Good morning. :)
Wow, apparently I've been wanting to build a server since February 5! And I finally have one, woooooo :o)
It's raining!
An interesting read.

BBS'sBBS's were great. I remember getting my first 2400 baud modem and dialing up to 357 Magnum, a BBS run by a local police officer. It was great, you could play Legend Of the Red Dragon for your whole two hours (one hour per connection) or you could browse the files, which were run off a CD server (consisting of about 5 CDROM drives) or you could chat on the message boards. I remember getting my 9600 baud modem, and I remember how 1MB took about a half of an hour to download. It was normal for my mom's phone line to be busy in the evening and after school, and I now was active in about 5 BBS's, all locally run. I played LORD on most of them, though some didn't even have games. Safe Hex Central was run by the security expert (and I do mean THE, this guy was good) in the area, and it ran on OS/2. The main reason I went there was for Internet e-mail (this was later on) via an address similar to (if I remember correctly) username@ no, I can't remember. It had a z000.f000 or somehting in the address, numbers corresponding to the Fidonet address. But I can't remember now. It's been probably 5 years since I've used it. They were always more fun because it was the same people you talked to. If you had a question about anything, even non-BBS related, you could mail the Sysop. You could be like "I want to start a BBS but don't know what I need" and, in fact I had a long chat with Bill Dirks (Sysop of Safe Hex Central) about that, and he was going to send me a copy (legal!) of OS/2 that he didn't use anymore. Great guy. (Didn't happen because I moved) But yeah, they were so much more fun. Their "Fidonet" (like usenet) was friendly, nobody bitched at you ever (if they did, they would be kicked off, and they knew it), you knew the people, it was like a small community. Nobody ever said "that's off topic so I won't answer it"... *sigh* even BBS's now, that run over Telnet on the internet, are lousy. Thousands upon thousands of people flock to them, trying to recapture the spirit of BBS's from back in the day. But of course it doesn't work, and it's all so impersonal. Millions of people on the internet, we can all be rude to each other and nobody is going to take the time to tell anyone else, and the next person that comes along (or the next 100) will probably answer the question. I remember being kicked off of 357 Magnum because I got rude with the Sysop. I mean I probably was barely rude at all, I was like 11 or 12 at the time, but still I remember being kicked off. He disabled my account. A while later I e-mailed him asking if I could create a new account, and apologized. Nobody would ever do that on the internet. Assuming they did something bad enough to be kicked off by their ISP, they would simply go to another ISP, or create another account with the same ISP using different details. Nobody cares about honesty and sincerity anymore... or maybe that's just me. But everything above is true. Sometimes I miss being a kid, and other days I just try and do nothing but be a kid. We're all growing older and have different memories of our childhood, some may have memories of riding bikes with friends or the younger kids may remember playing "pokemon" with their friends at a young age, but it's all the same. We always look back to the good times with happiness, we remember the good times and to a certain extent wish we could relive those times. At any rate, that's my nostalgia shutting up for now. :o) Stuff: BBS stands for Bulletin Board System, originally they were designed so company employees could have a way to post notes and such to each other, and they evolved to what they are today (and they were like I remember them at about halfway through their evolution). 6 comments |post a comment
*brain freeze*
I gave blood today. Got a spiff t-shirt and got some pineapple juice & a brownie. and they took a pint of blood from me -- it was all warm and stuff when I felt the bag (just cause I wanted to see if it was still warm -- it'd been draining into the bag for about 10 minutes) -- it was cool. And yeah. :-)
Have funally put livejournal on me friggin' computer. |
